Canadian Government - STOP the Seal Massacre NOW and FOREVER!!

Dear Prime Minister Harper and Government Officials of Canada:

Dear Madams and Sirs Representatives of Canada,

This year, Canada's gruesome seal hunt is being stymied at least as much by climate change as by animal advocates' efforts to end the slaughter.

As of a few days ago, almost 27,000 harp seal pups had been horribly killed by Canadian fishermen looking to make a few extra dollars before their fishing seasons begin. This is less than 6% of the absurd kill quota set by your Canadian government this year.

Among those killed are pups who were only about two weeks old, who were shot and left to suffer; pups who were dragged with hooks while conscious; and pups who cried and screamed while others around them were brutally slaughtered. Observers from the large organizations have documented this cruelty and the violations of Canada's laws. It remains to be seen whether your Canadian government will prosecute the perpetrators.

But this year, it is likely that the extreme lack of sea ice will cause more fatalities among seal pups than sealers will ... far more. Seal pups don't know how to swim when they are born. It takes them a few weeks to learn how. With so little ice in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the waters of the North Atlantic, tens, or more likely, hundreds of thousands of seal pups, have drowned.

So I again ask you to IMMEDIATELY stop this seal slaughter. Ending the seal massacre but losing the whole species is not the outcome we are striving for!!
